Home Care Assistance with Sandy Rasque

February 6, 2014

Sandy has had quite a journey from health insurance to becoming the accidental personal chef and this current landing point with Home Care Assistance. This is a 12 year old company. They are in the in-home, non-medical care giving business. They are in over 100 locations. Sandy has several offices in Southern California. They are not nurses - meaning they cannot give shots, or medicine - they can give reminders - nothing that enters the body.

But, they can help around the home, take them to appointments, shop for them. Great for rehab periods, surgery recovery, etc. This is not just a service for seniors. Sometimes you need that extra hand when you are trying to take care of yourself. Perhaps your spouse has to work and cannot take the time to take care of you because the income needs to keep coming in. This is an option for those short term situations.

Caregiving is not for the faint of heart. Home Care Assistance really vets their  team members to make sure they are passionate about caring for others. It can't be just a job for them.

Careful Screening

They typically hire only 1 in 25 applicants. Caregivers must have experience working with older adults. We check references, national criminal backgrounds, and legal right-to-work documentation. Finally, Home Care Assistance administers an exclusive caregiver screening exam developed by our on-staff Ph.D. psychologist. This test helps them check for honesty, kindness, and conscientiousness.

Ongoing Training

Our exclusive Balanced Care™ training program is based on extensive research into nutrition, activity, and other factors that have been proven to help people age better, maximizing health and quality of life. We also provide our caregivers with continuous education on the latest developments in older adult care.

What Is Home Care?

Home care means receiving services from a personal caregiver. Nine out of ten seniors would rather keep living at home. But when frailty, chronic illness or forgetfulness makes living alone too difficult for seniors, home care enables them to maintain their quality of life and lifestyle. Click here to start home care for a senior you know.

With home care, a personal caregiver visits the senior for a period of at least four hours at a time—up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week, depending on the level of care needed.

In-home caregivers provide help with a wide variety of non-medical related activities of daily living. These include: showering, bathing and dressing, meal preparation, transportation, using the toilet, companionship, recreation, medication reminders, fall prevention and more.
