Concierge Medicine, VW #DieselGate, The Facebook Hoax and Social Media Meanies

Sandy Lyons Rasque from the WELLth Center is back to talk about Concierge Medicine and how it can really help change how you interact with your doctor and receive the medical care you need.

In addition, we're super upset about the recent VW debacle, (aka #DieselGate) that directly effects Amanda, who just purchased a VW with a TDI engine just two months ago. It's going to be interesting to see what ends up happening with VW in the wake of this big issue. All we know is that it's not good at all.
Lastly, we've talked about social media often on the show, but this time we're obsessing about the reasons why so many people are not only so quick to believe anything that is posted on social networks (think the Facebook privacy hoax) and also why people are just so damn mean to each other. It's unfortunately so common to see others making nasty comments that they would probably never ever say normally to anyone if they were face to face with someone. Why do people think social media gives people this special pass?

Think before you marry too young, ladies you could be paying FOREVER!

Today was a throwback Wednesday as we had Debbie Gast Montenegro joining us along with Sandy Lyons Rasque and Angela. Bryan has known Debbie and Sandy going back to elementary school.

Debbie talked about the pitfalls of getting married young and what can happen after the children are raised and divorce happens. Debbie is now stuck forking over $2k a month to an able bodied ex-husband who has a good job of his own yet the fruits of her labor by getting an advanced degree and amazing job at Boeing has cost her having to support the “community” (when it comes to family law is the reference) and will be paying her ex-husband spousal support until he remarries or dies.

This was a very lively topic of conversation and a great show.

Chime in the comments with your horror stories - without mentioning names, please!

October 9: Why should we be paying for your LAZINESS? You are sucking us all dry.

We had a guest author scheduled, Alan Sheehan. He decided not to join us. Wonder if Bryan’s strong feelings about the abuse of the existing disability and state-funding systems could have had something to do with it? He was going to try to convince us that everyone should be guaranteed an income – REALLY? Don’t we have enough people abusing the system and draining the government – meaning WE THE TAXPAYERS?!

Angie was out sick.  So, the show was Wes Shaw of RMP Mortgage and Bryan. They discussed the fact that social security disability is being depleted and how people are seeking this as a source of income because their unemployment is running out as well as Real Estate and lending issues. They really covered the fact that people need to be working with an agent who understands the in’s and out’s of getting a house sold, understands the seller’s unique needs and how much you have to be on top of it in order to qualify for financing, especially in this market. If you are in need of what is considered a jumbo loan (anything over $546,250 conventional basis and $697,500 FHA). It was not a session where Bryan was tearing into the people who deserve the social security disability; but those who abuse that the system thinking that the rest of us should subsidize their laziness. The fact is our own government cannot even rectify its budget so what are we going to do as people continue to age and these programs run out of money etc..for those who REALLY need it?

July 3: Personal Branding and Photography Scams with Laurens Antoine

Bryan and Laurens will be discussing the importance of a professional headshot to brand yourself. Laurens also wants people to beware of photographer’s scams. Tune in – you’ll learn a lot from this in-demand, celebrity photographer. What does our gorgeous brunette say to you? Competent, self-starter, innovator? Perhaps. Are you sure?

About Laurens.

Laurens Antoine is a celebrity and fashion photographer that lives in San Diego, California.

Laurens’ career began in fashion when he founded a number of brands dating back to 1984. In his early years in the fashion industry Laurens started shooting out of passion and need. His marketing always required high end art, so he started to shoot many of the campaigns himself.

In 2003 Laurens started shooting for FHM Magazine, then the fastest growing magazine in the United States. Laurens became the director of photography and his duties broadened to encompass casting models, managing events and at times, public relations. One of the biggest PR coups, Megan Fox being named the Sexiest Woman in the World in 1997 was managed by Laurens who partnered with old friends at B|W|R Public Relations and resulted in 393 views of a behind the scenes video produced by Laurens in less than a week.In 2012 Laurens opened a studio in downtown San Diego to cater to creative agencies and corporations in his home town.

From Laurens Antoine’s Site:

Sadly, many photographers don’t view headshot clients as repeat customers. Aside from the potential of poor quality images, they can employ of number of marketing tactics that are misleading. We hope this helps you avoid problems and helps you find a photographer that delivers you images and an experience you’ll be ecstatic about.

Beware of low-ball advertised prices, especially in Google ads

You’ve seen them: Google and other ads for headshots with low prices right in the headline. Make sure you are getting everything you expect. They’re not loss leaders, they’re usually incomplete services.

Watch for additional fees for proofs, retouching, license, delivery, image size, processing time and a host of other things you may not have considered.
